"Howdy!
My name is Sylvia Guevara, I am currently a senior at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions in Houston, Texas, and am thrilled to be serving as your Student Forum Chair this year!
I am a native Houstonian and am happy to be back exploring my hometown after spending four years in Aggieland pursuing a B.S. in Microbiology (Whoop!). My time at TAMU granted me an appreciation of biological processes, leading me to seek an opportunity to grow in my knowledge and a means to contribute positively to my immediate community and humanity in general. During the course of my search I came across the Clinical Laboratory Science Program at my current institution of higher learning and decided to give it a try. Exactly one week after my graduation from Texas A&M I was sitting in class, ready for my first lecture at UT MD Anderson!
Needless to say, I am excited about my upcoming graduation, and more importantly, to putting all the concepts I have learned so far into practice in order to be of service to my community. I look forward to serving as your Student Forum Chair this year and to growing as a professional through this opportunity while also advocating for our profession!"

Howdy! My name is Gilbert Villarreal and I am honored to be your 2017-2018 Student Forum Vice Chair. I will be graduating come August 2017 with a B.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science from Texas State University. I also have a B.S. in Microbiology from Texas A&M University, where I was given the opportunity to do two years of molecular research. As graduation approached, I wasn’t sure what the next chapter in my life was going to be. I began to do some research and came across the Texas State University CLS program and was really intrigued. Before I started the CLS program, I worked as an ER technician and phlebotomist, where I was able to learn more about this profession from two alumni and I fell in love.
Being the hidden profession that saves lives, the general public does not know of our profession and the crucial role we play in order to accurately diagnose you and ensure your treatments are having the desirable effects. I am really passionate about our profession and have even recruited several students into our program. As your Vice Chair, I plan to focus on educating and raising awareness of our profession to high school and college students that are truly passionate about saving lives and the sciences as well as increase student involvement with TACLS. If you would like to learn more about our profession or have any ideas/suggestions for our Student Forum Officers, please feel free to contact me.

Hi there! My name is Nadia Lahlali currently attending the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions with expected graduation in August 2017. I started my desire to be a part of the clinical laboratory world when I was first introduced to a MLT program in New York where I’m originally from. I moved to Houston in the summer of 2010 to continue my MLT degree. After acquiring my certification, I have been working in the field for about 4 years and realized my interest to move further and be an active lab scientist.
With my experience, I wish to raise awareness of our profession to students, as well as, others in the laboratory community. The importance of the duties and responsibilities held by laboratorians should be recognized on an equivalent level (or more!) as other healthcare professionals. I am very excited in becoming a part of the student forum and look forward to contributing as a board member!

Hey there! My name is Ashleigh Graham and I am currently a senior at Texas State University in San Marcos, soon to be graduating with my BS in CLS! This is my first degree and I am super stoked to contribute to this field as a new professional.
I was raised in New York, where I discovered my love for the healthcare field while still home. I began my undergraduate adventure as an Engineering major at my local community college, but after a year knew that it wasn’t quite what I wanted to continue with after holding an internship in my local hospital’s biomedical engineering lab. With the academic year coming to a close, my mom suggested I look for something in Texas. With exactly two criteria, a CLS program and a marching band, I found Texas State University. I couldn’t be more in love with my decision to move here and continue with my education.
I have held the Treasurer position for the Society for Clinical Laboratory Science on campus for the past year and I am excited to be able to continue in a leadership position through TACLS. The CLS program at Texas State has allowed me the opportunity to travel and give back to communities, things that I’ve loved for as long as I can remember. I am excited to see what other opportunities I can take advantage of through our amazing profession, because for me, this is only the beginning! I am excited and honored to be able to serve you as a TACLS Student Forum Board Member!

Hello! My name is Sheridan Limmer and I am the 2017-2018 TACLS Future Professionals Track Committee Chair. I am from the small town of Smithville, Texas commonly known for filming movies like Hope Floats starring Sandra Bullock, Beneath the Darkness starring Dennis Quaid, and Miranda Lambert’s music video “Vice.” I am set to graduate from Texas State University August 11, 2017 with a BS in Clinical Laboratory Science. My mother is an MLS, making me a second generation CLS. I have thoroughly enjoyed this program and all of the individuals I have been privileged to meet.
As the Future Professionals Track Committee Chair, my main job is to create games and activities to involve students, professors, and laboratory professionals at TACLS. At the TACLS event in Allen this year, teams participated in a Laboratory Olympics that tested the contestant’s knowledge of key laboratory concepts. I aim to create a memorable experience for both first time and returning TACLS guests along with a little lab competition.
