Texas Association For Clinical Laboratory Science Shari Hall Scholarship |
In 1993, the Rio Grande Valley District Association for Clinical Laboratory Science (District XVI) established the Shari Hall Scholarship Fund. This fund is named for Shari Hall, MA, MT(ASCP). Shari was a long time member of ASCLS and TACLS and was very active in District Activities. She was a dedicated Professional who devoted her professional life to students interested in careers in the clinical laboratory. She was a faculty member with the MLT Program at Texas Southmost College (now the University of Texas-Brownsville/Texas Southmost College) from 1984-1988 and a faculty member with the CLS Program at the University of Texas-Pan American from 1983-1984 and Program Director with the same program from 1988-1990. She was a role model to her students as well as to her co-workers. Shari was a victim of breast cancer and passed away in 1993, but left a legacy of compassion, caring and dedication to her profession. Prior to 1993, the district had awarded scholarships to local students, but in 1993, a permanent scholarship fund was established to honor Shari Hall. Since that time, the district has held a variety of fundraising activities. For the last six years, the Rio Grande Valley District Association for Clinical Laboratory Science has sponsored a golf tournament. These activities have allowed the District to award one $500 scholarship to a CLT student and one $500 scholarship to a local CLS student every year. |
